NewsPro

Mobile-friendly web portal to access the real-time wire from The Canadian Press

We are now gradually rolling out our NewsPro web portal to clients so they can easily:

  • Search, filter and view real-time CP and Associated Press text across their subscribed categories.
  • View an image linked to a story and download the hi-res file.
  • Copy or download the text of a story.

Home Page

NewsPro provides access to your subscribed wire categories, but the home page showcases a few of the latest stories from our National and International categories, in English and French.

Simple Search

  • Type keywords in the simple search bar at the top of the page and click the "SEARCH" button to see relevant content.
  • Use quotation marks for an exact phrase search.
  • Use an asterisk (*) for a wildcard search.
  • You can use standard operators (AND, OR, NOT).

Expand Filter Panel

  • On the left-hand red menu bar, the article icon represents the Wire section.
  • When you are in the Wire section, you can expand the Filter panel by clicking on the hamburger menu to the left of the search bar.
  • The Filter panel will reveal options for narrowing down what content you want displayed.

Filter by Topics

  • In the Filter panel, the "Topics" tab lists your subscribed categories in alphabetical order (e.g. Advisory, Agate, Atlantic).
  • Clicking on a specific category such as Business will refresh the content to only display stories in the Business category.
  • Clicking "All" will display stories across all your subscribed categories.

Filters for Source, Date and Other Options

  • Clicking on the "Filters" tab will show the option to checkmark boxes for certain Sources (e.g. The Associated Press, The Canadian Press, La Presse Canadienne) to be displayed.
  • There are also checkboxes to filter on certain Services (e.g. "Broadcast" will display the stories written to be read on air).
  • The bottom of the "Filters tab" also provides options to display content published during your specified date range.

Refresh to Load New Content

  • In the top right corner, you may notice a red circle appear with a number inside.
  • Click on this and your NewsPro account refreshes to load in new wire content.

Download

  • When viewing the list of stories, you can click on the three dots at the top right corner of any story tile to reveal the available actions.
  • Clicking "Download" will take you to a screen where you can choose your desired file format for the story (e.g. Plain text, NITF, NewsML G2) and/or the hi-res jpg of the image linked to the story.

Create Topics

  • Perform a search and use the filter options to build a topic.
  • Click the "Create my topic" button.
  • Give your new topic a name.
  • If you checkmark "Send me notifications", you'll receive real-time emails of the stories matching your topic criteria.
  • You can find your saved topics under the "My Topics" tab in the left panel.
