Emergency backup information for newsrooms

Are you a Canadian Press daily newspaper or broadcast client unable to access our news wires? We encourage you to first call our help desk to ensure your specific issue is resolved by one of our experienced technical staff or directed to the appropriate technical supervisor.

As a second step, please use the following emergency backup services that ensure you have Internet access to our news wires in the event of satellite or newsroom software problems.


  1. Visit to log in.
  2. Enter your username and password. If you need a username and password, contact our help desk at 416-507-2099.
  3. Under “Select a service”, click the Members option.
  4. Click the Login button.
  5. The first page shows the most recent story headlines that crossed the wires. Click on the “News Categories” link on the blue left-hand menu to see stories by topic.

NOTE: This service is protected with OUTS for competitive markets. Daily newspaper clients should continue to file return news to The Canadian Press as they normally would.


  1. Enter your username and password. If you need a username and password, contact The Canadian Press Images at 1-866-599-0599 or
  2. Press the GO button. Pictures will be displayed from the most recent to the oldest. You can click to the next page using the left and right arrows in the left-hand menu.

NOTE: There are no download charges for pictures from the last seven days, so you will not be billed for using the archive for accessing live photos.
